CONTEXT

May 3rd 2025 was a particularly significant moment for Reform UK and its leader, Nigel Farage. In local elections, Reform won hundreds of council seats, takiing control of 10 local authorities, and achieved a projected national vote share of around 30%. It was the first time in these measures that neither Labour nor the Conservatives had the highest projected national vote share. Reform UK candidate Sarah Pochin also defeated Labour by just six votes to win the Runcorn and Helsby by-election.
