  8. AREA-CROSS PLATFORM NEWS

The BBC is the leading news source for the people of the United Kingdom, ITV and google search came close behind it. However, in 2022 we see a substantial decline in the audiences of ITV and google search. Whereas the use of obtaining news from social media has increased such as YouTube.

In a cross-platform news consumption study, approximately 76% of the audience (16+) said that they used BBC when obtaining news. Across the many different companies, the BBC by a landslide is the most successful cross-platform news provider. This includes radio, social media, newspapers, internet and TV. Other statistics show that the audience prefer the social media company Meta to ITV. 41% of the audience said that they used Meta for news whereas ITV 38%.
