2) What days and times does the show air?
It airs Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 10:30 am.

3) When did the Radio 1 Breakfast Show first begin broadcasting?
The Radio 1 Breakfast Show first aired on 30 September 1967. This was largely as a reaction to the rise of pirate radio which better catered for the types of music that younger listeners found interesting or entertaining.

The current presenter is Greg James, who has hosted the show since 20 August 2018.

5) How would you describe the tone and style of the show (e.g. informal, funny, energetic)?
The show’s tone is informal, energetic, playful, and conversational. Greg James often places listeners at the centre of the broadcast, treats the show as a fun “safe space” for confessions and quirky thoughts, and uses humour, banter, and a friendly style rather than a formal broadcasting tone. Above all James emphasises the importance of inclusivity and a focus on engagement with the listener.

Greg James “This show is all about you.” (On his first show)

Greg James "human, inclusive and listener focused"

Greg James "‘a safe place for people to confess things and be weird"

6) What genres of music are typically played on the show?

The show plays mostly contemporary pop, chart hits, and new releases, with the occasional throwback track. Its playlist focuses on current and emerging music to appeal to a younger audience.

Taken from BBC / Trust’s Radio 1 Service Licence

“Its target audience is 15-29 year olds and it should also provide some programming for younger teenagers. It should offer a range of new music, support emerging artists – especially those from the UK – and provide a platform for live music. News, documentaries and advice campaigns should cover areas of relevance to young adults.”

NB: This describes Radio 1 as a whole rather than the breakfast show specifically.
